Jake´s diary

I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay thus far in Slovakia. Everything from the food to the natural landscape to the people has been beautiful. Everywhere I look there are century old castles and expansive farmlands. Then, mountain ranges open up in the background. There is nothing like this in the United States.

I am grew up in a typical United States suburb located in Westfield, New Jersey. My family still lives there now and it is where I call home. I just completed my undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Fordham University located in New York City. I majored in History and Political Science and minored in Humanitarian Affairs. I was the captain of the Fordham Men's Rowing Team for my senior of college and was elected to the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.

I am enjoying biking and walking everywhere in the town of Opatovce and Nitrou and the surrounding towns. In New York City, I relied on public transportation all of the time so it is a nice change of pace to be able to walk and bike most places. I enjoy exercising as well so it is a bonus.

I am looking forward to my up coming months as an English Teaching Assistant in Nováky and all of the adventures ahead and friends I will meet!
